Chapter 269
Miles and miles and miles but I didn’t really go anywhere. It was one of those kinds of days. A Sunday. A 40 miler on the bicycle. Then a 60 mile trip on the Jeep to check on a possibility. Then an 80 mile trip in the old antique pickup to nowhere, just enjoying the purr of a 55 year old engine and a smooth road and a fine cigar, damn near perfect. These moments have to be scheduled into our modern overclocked lives, or they just won’t happen. Sad I know, but true.
So we scheduled a “day off” and rode and rode. Purposeless relaxing, brain in neutral, no work except mental wanderings about whatever you want. You need this, and you won’t ever get it, unless you schedule it. You need this so that you can recharge rejuvenate restore all your mental bits and pieces and get a new framework. You need this so that you can step back and view all that you are working on and see it differently and approach it differently. You need this so that you can reset all your internal whatever’s, its like shutting down your computer and then restarting it can solve a host of bugs and problems.
But you need this just because it is fun and pleasurable too. Sure I could have have keep pressing on with the big project we are working on right now and made “progress” in getting the 10 million actions that I still have to accomplished done. But it was time to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the day, and that was the progress most needed.
